Peace is not implied by a ceasefire

Peace is not implied by a ceasefire

Ukrainian politicians, soldiers, and civilians all contend that a truce would be pointless without Western assistance to enforce it, even though Emmanuel Macron has stated that one could be agreed upon soon.

Because of this, Kyiv has issued a call to action to its surviving allies as the US presses Europe to intervene where it is less inclined to.

Yesterday, at a summit in the capital, more military packages and sanctions against Russia were announced. To compete with an American proposal, the European Union even offered its own natural resources agreement with Ukraine.

In the next few days, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit the White House, just like his French counterpart. Both of them are attempting to close the growing security divide between America and Europe.

The fact that Europe still depends on the US as a military safety net is another aspect of these trips to see Donald Trump. They would want to know that Washington would intervene if fighting resumed after a ceasefire was agreed upon.

In the future, Ukraine’s closest allies appear more eager to set foot on Ukrainian territory, albeit merely as a “reassurance force” away from the front lines.

Since there is no assurance that everything will be peaceful, Europeans are still wary of possibly acting in a confrontational manner.

With a sizable military of its own, Russia is expected to keep occupying a fifth of Ukraine.
